Dream 1: Shoving Coins Into A Box
February 20, 2004

The Dream: I was riding in a car. The car stooped near this other vehicle from which a person came out and shot the trunk. It was clear in my dream that this was a robbery. Later, I saw myself as a prisoner on the back of a car shoving coin from a box. After all this, I saw my body flying away and I was trying to land on a hill but there was a lot of them and many of them were marked at the pick. I was afraid to land because some of them had traps. This is all I remember, thanks

The Interpretation

The Interpretation:
Jorge,
Cars symbolize the dreamer, or some important aspect of the dreamer. The car is you. The other car most likely represents another aspect of the yourself, and the trunk {the unconscious} of the other car probably represents an unknown, repressed or an aspect that has not been fully acknowledged. Shooting into the trunk would represent piercing into the unconscious {unknown or not fully acknowldeged} aspects. A robbery would symbolize the stealing of something in your life, most likely something you are not fully aware of {trunks, like the unconscious hold things out of sight}. This unconscious aspect holds the conscious self prisoner, denying you complete balance in your life. Boxes also represent the unconscious and shoving a coin into the box may symbolize 'shoving' this aspect that is being held prisoner back into the unconscious so not to have to deal or confront it. The body flying away would be moving away from the real self, or your true life's situation. Hills in this dream represent the various aspects of the psyche, obstacles that are known {marked} and put fear into you because of the possible traps that they present if you acknowldge them.

The dream is most likely presenting you with something in your life that you do not want to deal with or confront. We all have aspects about ourselves that we try to hide for one reason or another. This hidden or concealed aspect of your life is apparently robbing you of being as completely happy or contented with your life. You may consciously know what this 'thing' is but you have not fully confronted it or may be repressing it. You are paying a price {shoving coins into a box} because of this thing. It holds you prisoner and you are afraid of the many traps if you open up to it. But you cannot be your true self until you acknowledge this 'thing'.

Look at your life and detremine what it is that may be holding you prisoner. It may be your job, a relationship, or something from your past. The dream seems to be pointing to something that is as much unconscious {trunks, back of cars, boxes all represent the unconscious}. This thing, an aspect in your life, may be unconsciously motivated suggesting you are living your life being controled by this 'thing'. Consciously you are partially aware of what you are doing but are unaware of the unconscious motivations.

Let me know your impressions from my interpretation. It will require you to take a look at your life, work, home, relationships to determine what the dream may be speaking to. After you have done this I will look at the possibilities of what you personaly know and compare it to the dream. Also, knowing more about your life will give me insights to the possibilities. Jerry,

I'm totally shock. You identified something that only I know. Your paragraph number two describes my life perfectly. There is something in my life that I'm afraid to confront. It scares the hell out of me and something that bother me in my life. This is my ex-wife. I got divorce a few years back. I later got married but my ex doesn't know and I'm terribly afraid of telling her. I may sound like a coward but it is not. This is also denying a balance in my life. I feel like a prisoner locked-up inside myself. I'm not happy because every time I attempt to be happy, she comes to my mind. I do not love my ex nor I want to return to my old marriage. I love the woman I have now. She is the opposite of my ex-wife.

I'm definitely paying the price by not being happy in my life. I feel everyday an emptiness in my life. I wish everyday for my ex-wife to know about my marriage so I can be happy. I'm also afraid of telling my children. I have taken steps to liberate myself from this by telling my brothers and sisters. However, this has not satisfy my soul. I know that I have to confront the truth and tell my ex-wife.

It is amazing how you have describe my life not knowing about it. It is true line by line. I cannot believe this but at the same time I thank you for making me aware and BE IN BETWEEN me and my deep inside. I was not a believer of dreams until I read your interpretation. I know that you didn't know anything about me and yet you have described my life entirely.
Thank you again,

Jorge

Follow-Up to Interpretation:
Jorge,
I am so happy I could be of help. I would like to take all the credit but I must share it with Carl Jung and his philosophies on dream psychology. Having studied Jung and his dream psychology for ten years I have been fortunate to have an intuitive understanding of what he has to say about dreams and the psyche. If you have other dreams that you need help with feel free to contact me. Also you may want to take time to read more on Jung. Also the links and pages I have on Mid-lIfe Issues.

Observations from
Jerry    Web Master Myths-Dreams-Symbols
Looking back at my interpretation and what Jorge had to say in response to it, I can see more clearly what he was afraid to acknowledge. He was afraid to tell his ex-wife. The whole situation is robbing him of being whole and living a balanced life. This is the 'thing' that was holding him prisoner, and also the 'thing' he was paying into {shoving coins into the box}. The person shooting into the trunk {a symbol for the unconscious because it is a place where you hide things} is his other self, that part of him that wants to acknowledge to his ex-wife, and ultimately to himself that the situation is causing so much unhappiness in his life. The hills are the obstacles he feels he must overcome because of the situation and events, obstacles that have to be conquered in order to bring about balance to his life. Being afraid to land is metaphor of being afraid to tell his ex-wife, and confront the situation as he should. We can never cure an illness {complex}untill we admit there is one.
Jung tells us dreams compensate what we already know. He also tells us that a purpose of dreams is to help bring balance to our lives. These are two main themes of all dreams. What we know consciously is compensated by the dream to inform us of the unconscious unknowns. The dream is a mirror of the true self, the true condition of the dreamer. Jung says dreams are like a play, with the dreamer being the players, and the audience at the same time. If we listen to and try to understand our dreams we will be like Jorge; experience an Ah Ha! moment that brings about a new knowledge. And that knowledge was there all along, we just need to realize it and confront the inevitable.
